Top 10 tips for patients
1. Examine your own eyes every morning and night, particulary for signs of redness.
2. Always wash your hands and remove your lenses if they feel uncomfortable and/or you have a red eye. Contact the practice if the problem persists.
3. Remove your lenses if you are feeling unwell and, importantly, do not sleep in them
4. Ideally patients should remove their lenses for swimming. This advice may not always be practical and a reasonable compromise is to use goggles especially if going under the water, and remove and clean lens surfaces after swimming.
5. Comfort drops can be used as necessary
6. Always change your lenses after the correct period of time, as advised by your Practitioner.
7. If on extended wear(overnight) lenses, always take one night off when changing lenses.
8. Lenses must be cleaned and stored in suitable solution when taken out overnight; either a multipurpose solution or hydrogen peroxide system can be used
9. Keep a spare pair of up-to-date spectacles in case of emergencies.
10. Never sleep in lenses that are not comfortable
