 Sports Eyewear

A staggering 80% of sensory input comes from your eyes and yet many spectacle wearers choose to play their sport wihout their normal visual correction. Not only starving themselves of visual information but also putting themselves at risk of further eye injury from fingers, balls , rackets even the suns harmful ultraviolet rays.
We stock sports eyewear, including prescription eyewear and are AUTHORISED Dealers  for Inland, Norville and OAKLEY.

  Archery

- Require contrast tints

  Canoeist

- Polarising tints

  Cricket

- Glare protection and impact protection

  Cycling

- High contrast filters and impact resistant lenses. Reflections must be reduced but water or oil on the road

must be identified. Mirror finishes reduce reflections.

  Colours to wear:

high-contrast browns and copper - enhance the surfaces

yellow - effective in limited light conditions

  Driving

- Polarised, photochromatic e.g Driverwear lenses.

  Fisherman

- Need polarised lenses in task specific colours for different types of fishing. For instance contrast enhancing lenses create the ability to determine small differences  in colour enabling the wearer to spot fish in grassy, shallow water. The other option is to use a lens colour that matches the background. The colour will be enhanced so the object will be more apparent in its difference.

Colours that matter:

grey- enhances dark fish and is best for deep water

amber - accentuates sandy bottoms in shallow water

brown - brings out grassy water bottoms

yellow - effective in low light or overcast conditions

As fishing is often an all day acitivity, the high contrast polarised photochromics will respond to the changing light levels.

  Golf

- Amber lenses help golfers with their putting by improving their perception of the contrast on the green.

Golfers need lenses to enhance vision so they can read the green and contrast the ball against the green and the sky. Copper-coloured lenses are excellent and they improve the depth of perception. It also accentuates blue  so the sky and grass are muted against the ball.

  Mountainbiking

-High contrast filters and impact resistant lenses.

  Running

Red tinted lenses give runners enhanced natural colour perception and detail recognition

  Sailing

  Polarised lenses

  Shooting

- Hunting yellow or amber light up the viewing area. For target or skeet shooting the colour choice is extensive : orange will enhance a clay target but brown remains the best all round choice in bright light.

  Snorkeling/Diving

  Snow Sports

The popularity of snow sports has resulted in a large selection of lens choices. Both sky and snow produce blue light. Short wave blue light scatters and reduces the precision of distance vision. It works successfully in bright sun, flat light and haze. Reflected glare is also a problem on snow. Polarised lenses are good - but avoid the darkest tint. Mirror coatings are effective because they limit glare. The denser the mirror, the more light it absorbs.
